THAT'S HOW STRONG THE DARK SIDE OF LUKE SKYWALKER REALLY WAS

It’s no secret that Luke Skywalker was arguably one of the most powerful Jedi in the history of the Star Wars canon. But his power has only recently been redefined, as Luke has recently shown his strength on the dark side of the Force in a new comic. This extract from the comic also shows why the Emperor was so keen to turn the son of his right-hand man Darth Vader to the dark side in the 6th instalment of the classic Star Wars trilogy, and why he was even willing to sacrifice his loyal servant Darth Vader to do so.

But how strong was the dark side of Luke Skywalker, the shining hero of the galaxy, really?

Chapter 1

Luke's first contact with the dark power

The movieStar Wars Episode 5 – The Empire Strikes Back” already makes it clear that the aspiring Jedi carries dark power within him. When the aspiring Jedi met Master Joda after a vision in which Obi Wan Kenobi told him to visit the planet Dogba, he taught him the most basic things about the Force. The dark side of the Force was something that all Jedi had to learn about. Yoda also decided to introduce Luke to the dark forces and show him how to resist them. In fact, Luke often asked himself what the difference was between the dark and light side of the Force. Yoda explained to him that fear, anger and aggression were the ways of seduction and that this led to the malevolent Dark Side. The next day, Yoda led him to a dark and secluded place on Dagobah. Under a tree was a cave where Luke was surprised to meet Darth Vader. Luke instinctively pulled out his lightsaber and hatefully cut off the Dark Lord’s head. As Vader’s decapitated head rolled to the side, Luke recognised his own face inside the helmet before it vanished into thin air.

Chapter 2

Marvel Comic „Star Wars“ Ausgabe 43: Roter Kyberkristall

In the comic volume 43 entitled ‘Star Wars’, the young Jedi Luke Skywalker ventured into a red kyber crystal with the intention of cleansing the red bled-out crystal from the dark side with the help of the light side. This methaphysical journey led Luke directly into the clutches of a sentient journey to an ancient Sith. This legendary Sith was none other than the one who made this crystal bleed. While the young Skywalker was trapped in the methaphysical plane to heal the crystal, this mysterious man was working to pull the son of Darth Vader to the dark side, as his spirit was still trapped in the crystal. To do this, the nameless man dropped Luke down various chasms in a completely red-coloured planet.

Luke was locked up in a prison cell and this Sith lured the Jedi to the dark side. To do this, the mysterious man triggered a sore spot in Luke that the aspiring Jedi carried a lot of: pain! The pain of losing his family, the pain that Palpatine’s right-hand man, Darth Vader, was his father and, above all, the permanent loss of his hand, which he lost in the battle against his father in the movie Star Wars Episode V. The nameless Sith left Luke in his cell and abandoned him to his fate. The young Skywalker looked at his severed hand and paused for a moment. He utilised the pain caused by the injury, the loss of his hand, and let out a powerful Force blast that blew out the bars of his cell.

This scene gives the reader insight into how Luke Skywalker meditated on the pain of his severed hand for a few minutes before generating an enormous Force energy blast, which we can assume must be purely from the dark side.

Although Sith like Darth Vader have achieved even more powerful abilities with the help of the dark side, the fact that his father, unlike Luke, was trained in these abilities for years should be taken into account here. In the case of young Skywalker, it was merely a brief reaction that symbolises how much Darth Vader’s son is also driven by the dark side of the Force. The young Skywalker was one of the biggest rejecters of the dark side. It was all the more paradoxical, however, that he had one of the greatest potentials in the entire Star Wars cosmos to become the most successful Sith ever.

Chapter 3

What if Luk had turned to the dark side

If the young rebel hopeful had fully committed himself to the dark side, Luke Skywalker would have become an unstoppable Sith with a master like Emperor Palpatine. The most powerful Sith there ever was and probably ever would have been. But this scenario is quite unlikely, as it begs the question of whether Emperor Palpatine would never have allowed this to happen?

Darth Siddius was never prepared to share his place, the leadership of the Empire and subsequently the galaxy, with his partner! For this very reason, Darth Vader’s master is always glad that his apprentice relies on his iconic black armour. As well as having complete control over Vader, the armour also gave him complete control over his sidekick. This meant that he always had leverage over Vader and at the same time the knowledge that he would always be superior to his pupil. And it is precisely this aspect that would be lost with Luke Skywalker! From the Emperor’s point of view, it is therefore unthinkable that a Sith with Luke Skywalker’s abilities would grow up alongside Darth Siddius. Only a small ‘accident’, which the Emperor would perfidiously stage, could help the Emperor’s plans to realise his plans without the danger that his sidekick would one day become more powerful than himself. This could take the form of armour similar to that used on Darth Vader or some other deformation of the young Skywalker.

Chapter 4

Luke Skywalker joins the dark side?

When you read the sentence in this headline, it sounds like an obscene train of thought on the part of the author. The shining hero of the rebels actually joins the dark side?

In Star Wars Legends, that very scenario becomes reality! Here Luke Skywalker joins the returned Dath Sidius! The young Skywalker’s original plan was to merely make the Imerator believe that he had turned to the Dark Side to act as a spy on behalf of the Jedi. But since the dark side is far more seductive than the light side, his plan failed! Luke became one of the most powerful Sith and spread fear and terror across the galaxy. Only his sister Leya was able to turn her brother back to the light side of the Force.

Find out what would have happened if Luke Skywalker and his father Darth Vader had formed an alliance!

But what do you think? Would a ‘Dark Side Luke Skywalker’ have the potential to trump Darth Vader? What do you think about the idea of Luke Skywalker on the dark side? Would you welcome such a diametrically opposed plot to the original epic? Let us know in the comments!
